Local Cyclists Shine at M50s Cyclo-Cross All-Irelands in Ballinasloe

Barry Cassidy and Declan McEntee proudly represented Emyvale Cycling Club at the M50s Cyclo-Cross All-Ireland Championships, held in the Horse Fair Field in the heart of Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. The event attracted a full roster of the nation’s top cyclo-cross riders, promising a thrilling day of competition.

The course proved to be a formidable challenge, with technical sections and stretches of deep mud that quickly burned the legs and sapped the riders' strength. Declan McEntee was in excellent form, competing fiercely with the leading riders. Unfortunately, an incident on a downhill section, where another rider collided with him, forced him down the field. Despite the setback, Declan displayed remarkable determination, overtaking numerous competitors to finish in an impressive sixth place—a fantastic achievement given the circumstances.

Barry Cassidy faced his own grueling battle on the course. Reflecting on his performance, Barry remarked, “My legs and lungs were on fire for the full race.” Both riders showcased their resilience and dedication, embodying the spirit of Emyvale CC.

The atmosphere was electric, with a large crowd cheering on the competitors along the course. Emyvale CC extends its gratitude to the community for their support and to photographer Toby Watson for capturing the day’s action.

Well done to Barry and Declan for their hard work and commitment throughout the winter season, proudly flying the Emyvale CC flag and upholding the club’s traditions.
